1 Frequently Asked Questions  1

Wakeboarding

Are there any restrictions for wakeboarding?

Wakeboarders must be: 8 years of age or above; Able to swim at least 25 metres competently; Accompanied by an adult if under 16; In good health and are able to satisfy themselves that the activities are within their abilities; Not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
All participants whether wakeboarding, on the ringo rides or aqua park must be under 20 stone in weight.

Do I need to make a reservation?

We recommend booking a minimum of 48 hours in advance as spaces are limited. We do accept walk-in's if here is availability (aqua park walks in's are charged £12 pp). To avoid unnecessary congestion, waiting time or disappointment we do recommend booking online. Drop in sessions will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. There must be sufficient time before the start of your session for you to change and receive your safety briefings. Pre-booking is advised. We do not reccomend any beginners/new riders booking during our last month of the season (November) due to water temperatures.

How does the cable wakeboarding system work?

We have 2 straight line cables for wakeboarding. It is a maximum of one wakeboarder per cable per session. Attached to the straight line is a handle line, which you hold onto. Unlike wake boarding behind a boat, you will experience a forward and upward pull, meaning it is easier to get up and riding. Each cable is operated by your coach, who is able to match the speed to your ability. The upward pull, speed control and one to one coaching allows for quick progression. You do not need to have any previous board experience to be up and riding in a beginners lesson.

Should I book the north or south cable?

South Cable Obstacles: Pool gap, rail and incline, barrel. North Cable Obstacles: 2xkickers and a box. For beginners, it does not matter which cable you book. Ringo Rides MUST be booked on North Cable.

How long is a wakeboarding session?

Each set is 15 minutes long. Please note that the time you book is the time you are wakeboarding on the water and it is advised that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your session to allow enough time to check in and change. Please arrive at least 30 minute before session if having a beginner lesson. If you are late, you will lose this time on the water.

Will someone teach me how to wakeboard?

All our cable operators are qualified coaches and they will be there to advise you throughout your session, whether a beginner or more advanced rider, they will be more than happy to give you a handy tip.

Can I hit the obstacles?

For your safety, before you can hit the obstacles and water features you must be able to complete the following wakeboard maneuvers whilst remaining in control of your board: Hold a hard heelside and toeside edge Negotiate corners Ollie Turn the board from regular to switch and back Ride switch at least 100m Ollie to switch Pembrokeshire Wake Park instructors and cable operators will assess your riding when you first enter the water and if they are confident you are obstacle ready you can then start hitting the obstacles.

Can I use my own board?

Yes, you can but we do ask that before you enter the water you allow our staff to check the board (not all boards are built to hit features). If you are using obstacles you must remove the fins. All wakeboarders use their own equipment at their own risk.

Will the park close in bad weather?

Come rain or shine PWP will be open for business. However, to maintain everyone’s safety in cases of extreme bad weather (e.g dangerous winds, lightning or fog) we would either temporarily stop operations or shut the park. We will notify all wakeboarders or Aqua Park users as soon as possible. Wakeboarders / Aqua Park users who have pre-booked and paid for a session that day will have their account credited so that they can re-book on another day. We highly reccomend that any new riders/beginners do not book during our last month of the season (November) due to water temperatures.
